My First Adventures in Second Life
Posted by penguinpiek on 10th May 2007
After reading about Second Life in the blogs of several prominent technology educators, I decided to give it a try to see what all of the hype was about. After all, sometimes we all need a place to escape after the frustrations of the real world, especially those of the workplace. At least that’s true in my real world!
So, Penguin Piek, my avatar, came to life in Second Life. I explored the orientation island for a little while, learning how to walk and change my appearance. Then my friend Tyna Catteneo teleported me to her location in Eduisland, and the adventure began.
She showed me around the ISTE (International Society for Technology Education) building and explained that they have virtual social events and conferences. That sounds so cool! I’m excited about the opportunity to learn how other educators are using this new technology for both professional development and with their own students. However, first I need to learn how to walk, chat, IM, take pictures, get a haircut….So much to do and so little time!
