About Penguin Piek
Welcome to Penguin Piek’s blog! I hope you enjoy your visit as you read about my adventures in this new and very addictive world known as Second Life.
In real life, I work as a Instructional Technology Resource Teacher in Virginia. Generally, my job entails helping teachers in grades K-5 integrate technology into the curriculum. That can include almost anything related to technology such as presenting workshops, creating web pages, team teaching with laptops, creating podcasts, purchasing and installing software, making sure computer labs are working properly, and numerous other responsibilities. There are many days that I just need a place to escape to after school. One of my friends introduced me to Second Life, and I became instantly enthralled with this virtual world.
As I am playing around and truly having fun, I am challenging myself to discover uses of this resource for professional development for the teachers in my two schools. I am also interested in investigating the possibilities of using virtual worlds for young students, all the while thinking first and foremost about their safety.
So, come along as as I share my adventures in Second Life. If you happen to run into Penguin Piek in Second Life, be sure to stop and say Hi!
